Our Story

A conversation about mutual dislike of the coffee from one Italian coffee shop in Philadelphia led to a chance encounter between two of the three future Founders of Il Re Foods.  One, the Calabrese son of a family of olive farmers, the other an Italian-American who was trying to work on his conversational Italian.  Fast forward and a group of Partners is fulfilling a family dream to bring to America what they think is the best extra virgin olive oil in the world.  The kind of olive oil that the locals of small towns in Southern Italy are fortunate enough to enjoy everyday.  What you get in Il Re is pure, unadulterated, olive oil from a family farm in Calabria, Italy – made and shared the same way it has been for hundreds of years.

We can talk about how our olive oil has been tested and reviewed as superior (you can read that on the “certifications” page) and has fans all over the world, however, we think the story is more interesting.  After all, tasting is believing.  From our family to yours.
